Army wins battles, Logistics wins wars

Interview for Haski

Does logistics really win wars?

Logistics really wins wars; I take it literally. Since the time of Napoleon, the logistician, as a position, has been at the level of commander-in-chief of the army. It provided operational activities, redeployment, and supply of all provisions for the military.

But it must be soberly understood that logistics without a military strategy is impossible as a separate existing unit. It must always be in close contact with the strategy of warfare because logistics is more of an operational activity. In this tandem, logistics helps and plays a decisive role in which side will win.

How has civilian logistics been reformed now?

Despite all the circumstances, there are many positive changes in the logistics of Ukraine. First of all, everything superfluous disappeared, because we focused on the main thing. How to survive? How to ensure business activities? How to respond to risks? During this year, logistics has made a huge step forward. This can be seen in the enterprises in Ukraine that have relocated their warehouses, implemented WMC and transport systems, and have done a lot for business flexibility. If we compare this year’s pace and the pace of previous years, it seems to me that this year domestic logistics has done what it has not done for 5 years!

We had to respond quickly at the national level, at the level of local supply, at the levels of optimization of logistics chains and alternative suppliers to all possible risks. I am very pleasantly surprised and reassured by the fact that domestic logistics continues to invest in IT systems and automate business.

The role of Ukrainian logisticians in the logistics of Ukraine in 2023

During this year, we have integrated even more into European society. Many Ukrainian logisticians are now working abroad, continuing to support domestic supply chains. This has a positive effect on the development of the profession, so the qualifications of logisticians have improved significantly this year. At the state level, several important steps have been taken to integrate logistics systems and to unite logistics systems with countries with which we have a border. The procedure for customs control and regulation of road transport has been established. All this has a positive impact on the development of the Ukrainian logistics industry, which is developing in the European space. All this has helped civilian logistics to change, in my opinion, in a very positive direction.

How can each of us help the country?

It is important for each of us to start with ourselves. Invest in your development, invest in awareness growth, and focus on best practices that are very accessible now.
